Announcing the “Musculoskeletal Medicine Clinic” at Marion Medical, P.C.  This non-surgical program combines the impressive treatment modalities of Intermittent Axial Traction, European Homeopathic Neural Therapy Injections, and other forms of Physical Medicine to address you orthopedic condition and get you out of pain.

As you know by now, there is nothing more disabling than pain.  Specifically pain associated with the neck, lower back, sacroiliac, disc bulges/herniations, sciatica, brachial neuralgia, or headaches.  Pain reduces our ability to do those things that we love to do and it can so adversely affect our body, that it begins to erode our ability to perform our activities of daily living (those tasks such as washing our hair, carrying out the trash, walking in a steady manner, and more).

At Marion Medical, we have developed an innovative treatment approach to pain.  Our European injectable agents are totally biocompatible and without any side-effects.  The injection “cocktail” that we have developed, is a combination of medications from Germany and Italy and are fully FDA regulated.  Traditional pain intervention injections typically utilize steroids and/or anesthetics along with oral opiates (narcotics).  The potential side-effects can be problematic and a significant portion of patients do not want to take that risk.  That is where our European injection program combined with our physical medicine treatments for treating your pain becomes a welcome alternative.

Breakdown of the Components to the Integrated, Non-Surgical Treatment Program:

1)  Neural Therapy Injections With European Homeopathic Medicines for Pain:

These natural, homeopathic medications are from HEEL pharmaceuticals in Baden Baden, Germany and GUNA pharmaceuticals in Milan, Italy.  They generally serve as functional modulators and regulators and possess different pharmacological group constituents, including PPG (plant pharmacological group), MPG (mineral pharmacological group), CPG (catalyst pharmacological group), and IPG (immunomodulator pharmacological group) AND contain biological compounds called messenger molecules (neuropeptides, hormones, interleukins, and growth factors) in a homeopathic dose application.

These injectable natural medicine agents are administered in a neural therapy injection technique utilizing a 30 gauge by .5-inch needle.  Deeper intramuscular injections can be performed for a more “targeted” effect adjacent to critical skeletal structures.  These injections work with the patients biology/biochemistry to actually assist in the repair and healing process, that is responsible for the patient’s pain.  The injections are administered at a frequency of 1 to 2 treatments for the first 2 weeks, then 1 injection per week for 6 weeks, then once every two weeks for a month.  Following that "active care" protocol, a maintenance injection schedule may be suggested.

2)  Intermittent Axial Traction:

Originally developed decades ago, but high refined in the 1990s, this specialized from of traction has quickly become the best conservative treatment option for many patients suffering the effects of disc herniations, bulges, of disc degeneration in the neck and/or lower back.  The therapy is also highly effective in treating those patients with mild to moderate spinal stenosis, spinal degenerative arthritis and extremity radicular pain (pain radiating into the buttock, hip, and down the leg OR radiating down into the shoulder, arm, and hand).  The process of spinal decompression therapy / intermittent longitudinal traction is so gentle, that many patients actually fall asleep during the 17 - 30 minute treatment.

Intermittent Axial Traction therapy is a non-surgical traction-based treatment that uses a computerized guided pulley system to cycle through distraction and relaxation phases to gently separate the vertebrae of the spine.  A specific spinal segment can be isolated and placed under a negative pressure gradient, causing a vacuum effect within the disc.  The disc material that has protruded or herniated outside the normal confines of the disc (provided it is not a prolapsed rupture that only occurs around 10% of the time) can be pulled back (literally sucked back) within the disc.  This in turn takes the pressure off the surrounding pain sensitive nerves.  In addition to relieving nerve irritation, the therapy increases circulation to the disc which stimulates healing within the injured tissues.

3)  Physical Medicine Interventions:

Marion Medical is an integrated, medical center.  That means that we are able to offer not only standard medicine interventions where appropriate, but we offer treatments from other health care disciplines as well.  The physical medicine interventions that we concurrently offer patients suffering with spinal pain, disc problems, spinal degenerative arthritis, headaches, sacroiliac problems, sciatica, and upper extremity neuralgias may include specific, targeted chiropractic manipulation, physican therapy/rehabilitation interventions, and possibly physical therapy modalities such as ultrasound, interferential current, diathermy, cold laser therapy, and more.
